The Shambhala School is an independent, co-educational school serving a diverse Pre-Primary to Grade 12 population in North End Halifax. We provide an enriched curriculum that meets or exceeds the Nova Scotia Provincial Educational standards. Our curriculum is built on the five pillars of: Mindfulness/Compassion, Integrated Arts, Outdoor Education, Classical Literature/ History, and Society. Level Two Early Childhood Educator (ECE)

We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Level Two Early Childhood Educator (ECE) to join our Pre-primary team. As a Level Two ECE, you will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment that supports the growth and development of our young learners.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Pre-primary team to plan and implement an emergent curriculum that promotes holistic development and aligns with the Shambhala School’s pillars.
  • Facilitate a daily circle that incorporates songs, verses, movement, and oral storytelling
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for children aged 3 to 5 years old.
  • Foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through developmentally appropriate activities and experiences.
  • Support children’s exploration and discovery through hands-on, play-based learning opportunities.
  • Observe and document children’s progress, interests, and achievements to inform individualized planning and assessment.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues, promoting open communication and collaboration.
  • Incorporate mindfulness practices, outdoor experiences, arts integration, and culturally sustaining activities into daily routines and lessons.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the ongoing growth and improvement of the Pre-primary program.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Level Two Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification.
  • Experience working with children aged 3 to 5 years old, preferably in a similar educational setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of emergent curriculum and child-centred pedagogy.
  • Familiarity with the principles of mindfulness, outdoor education, arts integration, and culturally sustaining curriculum.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and reflective practice.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, Vulnerable Sector check, Child Abuse Register check (or willingness to obtain).

Casual Position

The Shambhala School is looking to expand our roster of substitute teachers and caregivers.

Substitute Teachers

We are looking for qualified substitute teachers for all levels: Pre-Primary, Elementary (Primary to Grade 5), and Upper School (Grades 6-12). The requirements are as follows:

  • Pre-Primary – Applicants should have experience working with children aged 3-5 years. ECE certification is preferred but not required for substitute teachers, as you will be paired with an ECE teacher.
     
  • Grades Primary through 12 – Applicants are required to have, at a minimum, an undergraduate degree with experience teaching in a classroom milieu. BEd is preferred, unless it is a specialty area (Music, Art, Drama).
